18th Century Antique French Leather Trunk
A gorgeous 18th century French leather travel trunk with brass studded edges and decorative scroll brass motifs. The top edges are lined with brass and there are two brass side handles. This unusual leather trunk would have been used to store a clothes and personal possessions and is a good example of the continental luggage style seen in France and Spain in the 1700s and early 1800s. It would have been used by an affluent landowner or merchant. Today it would make a stunning bedroom blanket chest.
It's one of the finest travel trunks we have ever acquired in 20 years.
The top opens to reval a single large compartment that has been relined with a green baize-like fabric.
Size: W92cm x D51cm x H69cm
Condition report: For a trunk that's over 250 years old it is in a reasonably good condition. The leather show wear and discolouration in places. A portion of the back panel's leather was replaced some time ago with a dark green leather.
There are signs of historic woodworm to small areas of the base's feet. It is not active.
