Antique Military Chest Major LL Brighton

Antique Military Chest Major LL Brighton

Imagine this antique black military chest as a novel low-rise coffee table? Alternatively, the trunk could also become an end-of-end or an under bed storage area. The options are open and only limited by your imagination!

The chest belonged to Major Leslie Lawrence Brighton of the Australian Army. During WW2 he served in Europe and then Tripoli, Middle East for the 'General Staff' at 9th Australian Division. There is also a record of him serving for 16th HQ Infantry Brigade. Major Brighton was born in London on 21st January 1901 and appeared to have immigrated to NSW, Australia, before enlisting on 16th October 1939 and returning to London before being posted overseas. The trunk shows signage: 'L.L. Brighton, c/o Cox & Kings, 6 Pall Mall, London'. Cox and Kings were an army agent during the war and would have managed Maj Brighton's luggage logistics. It was later incorporated into Lloyds Bank.
