Antique Naga Wooden Grinding Table

Antique Naga Wooden Grinding Table

Scaramanga is very pleased to offer this rustic and organically shaped hand-carved Naga grain grinding table. Click here to see more Vintage Wooden Tables.

It's an authentic traditional piece from the early 1900s and interestingly is a grinding table from Nagaland in Northern India.

Original Nagaland tables like this piece are rare to find and are often sold for over £4,000.

The table was originally used by the Naga tribes of remote North East India as a grinding table for grains such as millet. The three holes in the centre are where the grains would be held and pounded and ground into a powder using long wooden poles.

Carved from a single log, the stunning piece has a rich, dark brown patina. Why not take on this lovely item and continue its long life with more love and waxed polishes?

The table's top colour is lighter than shown. We have taken the table back to it original patina. It had been previously darkened.

Hand-Carved Naga Table size: W180cm x D83cm x H42cm.

The primitive nature of this item gives it an authentic beauty. You can see and appreciate every curve and undulation on its surfaces. The table originally the table had gently sloped sides. We have levelled the top so it can be used for cups and glasses.
