Paints and dyes were used to make furniture, doors and windows to look as if they were made from golden oak, sycamore, maple and other expensive hardwoods. Scumbling has been used on the top, front and sides within a decorative border. The base and lid edges have a decorative edging.

This chest has trap hinges and an upper-side compartment.

This kist has had a long hard life and shows wear and tear. The top shows significant wear to the paint and the surface has an uneven texture to it.
