Premium Prize Bonds were first issued in India in 1963, by the finance minister Moraji Desai. Like the UK and other countries, Premium Bonds were a successful way for the Indian government to raise public borrowing. This contributed to the Public Debt and would contribute to projects such has building railways, irrigation canals, building hospitals and other government spending projects.
The sign is old, not a modern reproduction. Its scuffing and slightly corroded upper corners reflect its long life and add an element of authenticity and character.
